Why Capri?

Capri, the jewel of southern Italy

The rugged cliffs and crystal clear waters of the small island of Capri seem to be created straight from dreams and mythology. It's rumored to be where the seductive sirens sang to Odysseus and his sailors in Homer's "The Odyssey," and we can see why their offer was so tantalizing. From bright green trees and gardens to colorful marinas and squares, Capri is a paradisiacal destination every bit as beautiful as artistic renderings make it out to be.

The small getaway in the Bay of Naples has been a hot spot for royalty and celebrities since the Roman times. Thus, it is flush with world-class restaurants, breathtaking hikes, five-star hotels and chic shops. Whether you're visiting for a daytrip or for a month-long vacation, you'll be smitten with the laid-back charm of Capri and yearn to return as soon as possible.

must-see

My favorite spots in Capri

Blue Grotto

Blue Grotto

The must-see attraction on Capri is the magical Blue Grotto, where visitors take a boat ride through a natural cavern that is filled with an ethereal and eerie light reflecting on the (very blue) water.

Good to know

You can also get to the Blue Grotto from Anacapri vs. a boat tour from Marina Grande, but unless you have at least a few days in Capri.

Gardens of Augustus

Gardens of Augustus

The Giardini di Augusto is a small garden located just a short walk from the center of Capri Town. At the back of the gardens are two terraces that offer breathtaking views of the sea, the surrounding lush greenery, and of the famous Faraglioni rocks.

Good to know

The best time to visit in spring and the beginning of summer when the blossoms are at their best.

Faraglioni

Faraglioni

The Faraglioni rocks are the symbol of Capri. There is no better way to see the stunning coastline of Capri Island than by taking a boat tour around it. Offering a unique view, boats travel through an arch of these three iconic, oceanic rock formations.

Good to know

It's also possible to walk down very close to the rocks from the Belvedere Tragara viewpoint. There's a seasonal restaurant Da Luigi Ai Faraglioni.
